Ken Hart
Local 1462 - St. John's, NL
Ken Hart has been a dedicated member of ATU Local 1462 since 1989. He began his career at the St. John’s Transportation Commission in 1987, initially working in the Wash Department before becoming a Transit Operator in 1991—a role he continues to hold today.
Ken has served on the Local’s Executive Board since 1999, holding every position, including Shop Steward, Recording Secretary, Secretary-Treasurer, and Vice-President. In December 2022, he was elected President/Business Agent. His involvement in the union is deeply rooted in family tradition—his father was a Local 1462 member for over 40 years and served as both Recording Secretary and President/Business Agent. Together, they became the first father-son duo in the Local’s history to hold the presidency.
At the national level, Ken was elected to the ATU Canada Executive Board in an interim election in 2023 when the Quebec/East Board position became vacant. He was re-elected to the same position in 2024, continuing his advocacy for transit workers across the region.
